Corporate/M&A
The European Union has formally approved legislation implementing its obligations under the 2025 EU-U.S. trade agreement. The legislation eliminates EU tariffs on most U.S. industrial goods, expands preferential access for certain U.S. agricultural and seafood products, and includes safeguard mechanisms allowing the EU to suspend trade concessions if the United States fails to comply with the agreement.
 
Commercial Litigation/ADR
On June 11, 2026, the Supreme Court decided FS Credit Opportunities Corp. v. Saba Capital Master Fund, Ltd., handing closed-end funds a significant victory over activist investors by finding that Section 47(b) of the Investment Company Act does not create an implied private right of action, thereby removing a powerful litigation tool for challenging fund governance measures. Real Estate
Phase 1 of the pied-à-terre tax went into effect on July 1st, resulting in higher tax rates for residential properties located in New York City that are not used as the owner's primary residence. Read more here.
 
Trusts and Estates
U.S. property holders whose citizenship status does not match their domicile (e.g., U.S. citizens living abroad and non-U.S. citizens living in the U.S.) face significant U.S. estate tax exposure that advance estate planning can help mitigate. Read more here.

Bankruptcy/Corporate Restructuring
Dave McGrail is assisting the U.S. affiliate of a Ugandan reforestation company in evaluating its restructuring options. 
 
Ilana Volkov is representing various significant stakeholders in the Chapter 11 bankruptcy case of DAMIS Holding LLC et al. pending in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey. The debtors acquired, lease and operate a diversified portfolio of real estate holdings, buildings and related assets across the United States.
 
Corporate/M&A 
In June, Pearl Shah Dalsania helped a creative advertising agency based in New York buy the assets and operations of a New England competitor.
 
Commercial Litigation/ADR
In April, Ephraim Glatt defended a former employee in an investigation against a real estate company. 
 
In May, Patrick Train-Gutiérrez successfully collected on a note payable on behalf of a client who had been unable to independently collect on the note for a number of years.
 
In June, Patrick Train-Gutiérrez, Ephraim Glatt, and Cynthia Botello successfully represented defendants against an Order to Show Cause seeking attachment of their clients’ bank accounts prior to any resolution on the merits.
 
Real Estate
In April, Joshua Hager and Pearl Shah Dalsania guided the managing member of a new joint venture in connection with the purchase of a $35M real estate portfolio.
 
Trusts and Estates
In early May, Juliya Ismailov co-paneled a presentation entitled “Inbound Planning Playbook: What the NRA (and Advisor) Must Get Right” at the American Bar Association/Real Property Trusts and Estates Section’s Annual National Conference in Chicago.

Later in May, Juliya Ismailov and Sarah Gleit presented a webinar called “Planning Ahead: Trusts & Estates Primer & Refresher” for M&B clients and friends. They are happy to share a link to the webinar recording upon request. 
 
In June, Juliya Ismailov and Ephraim Glatt filed a successful petition in Kings County Surrogate’s Court to compel production of a will and help advance settlement negotiations in an intra-family dispute.​
